The Papas Candy Company was established by Chris A. Papas (1894-1984), a Greek immigrant from Macedonia. Papas, born on January 7, 1894, immigrated to the United States in 1909. Initially, he settled in Pittsburgh. Within a brief period of time, however, he moved to Cincinnati. On September 10, 1917, Papas married Lillian Niederhelman (1899-1986). The couple had five children: Katherine, Alex, Gloria, Rita and Joyce.

Community History – Ludlow – Thomas Dillon
A Ludlow native, attorney, former Ludlow Police Judge, and employment counselor for the Kentucky State Board of Economic Security. Thomas Xavier Dillon was born on March 28, 1894 in Ludlow. Dillon attended St. Xavier University Law School of Cincinnati. He practiced law in Cincinnati for six years until his election to the position of Ludlow Police Judge in 1925. He lost a campaign for re-election in 1929 to Edwin O. Ross.

Community History – Bromley – People – Evans, Israel
Israel Evans was born in c. 1809. According to his obituary, Evans operated the first pharmacy in the nearby City of Ludlow. The store was located at the northeast corner of Elm and Carneal Streets. Evans also practiced medicine in Ludlow. His office was located on the west side of George Street, north of Elm Street. Evans was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ludlow.
William Riedlin Sr.
Owner of the Bavarian Brewery and promoter of German culture and tradition. Bavarian Brewery produced a number of different labels, including “Riedlin’s Select” beer.
John G. Carlisle
A Democratic member of the Kentucky House of Representatives, the Kentucky Senate, the United States House of Representatives, Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and United States Secretary of the Treasury. John G. Carlisle was born in a log cabin on September 5, 1835.
